GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO SIGNED A BILL INTO LAW THAT ALLOWS SCHOOLS TO INSTALL CAMERAS ON SCHOOL BUSES TO CATCH DRIVERS WHO UNLAWFULLY PASS THEM.

“BY SIGNING THIS MEASURE INTO LAW, WE ARE PROVIDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO HOLD RECKLESS DRIVERS ACCOUNTABLE AND ADVANCING NEW YORK STATE’S BOLD INITIATIVES TO KEEP OUR SCHOOLCHILDREN SAFE,” CUOMO SAID IN A STATEMENT.

OFFENDERS WILL ONLY RECEIVE TICKETS FOR ILLEGALLY PASSING STOPPED BUSES IF OFFICERS WITNESSED THEM IN THE ACT, BUT THE NEW LAW ALLOWS EVIDENCE TO BE TAKEN FROM STOP-ARM CAMERAS ON BUSES TO PROSECUTE VIOLATORS. MOTORISTS WHO ARE CAUGHT ILLEGALLY PASSING SCHOOL BUSES BY THE CAMERAS WILL BE SUBJECT TO A MINIMUM $250 FINE FOR A FIRST OFFENSE AND FINES INCREASE WITH EACH SUBSEQUENT OFFENSE.

ALSO, IN ALBANY – GOVERNOR CUOMO CALLED ON THE TWO DOZEN DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO ADOPT A SERIES OF GUN-CONTROL MEASURES HE SAID WOULD “CHANGE THIS NATION” FOLLOWING TWO MASS SHOOTINGS THIS PAST WEEKEND THAT LEFT MORE THAN 30 DEAD.

THE “MAKE AMERICA SAFER PLEDGE” IS A FOUR-POINT PLAN THAT EMULATES SEVERAL LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS IN NEW YORK, INCLUDING A BAN ON HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES AND THE RECENTLY PASSED “RED FLAG” LAW THAT ALLOW GUNS TO BE CONFISCATED FROM CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS THROUGH AN EXPEDITED COURT PETITION.

ONE PERSON WAS INJURED WEDNESDAY MORNING AFTER THEIR CAR COLLIDED WITH A TRACTOR-TRAILER IN MIDDLEBURY, WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SAID.

A GREEN HYUNDAI SEDAN WAS EASTBOUND ON WEST MIDDLEBURY ROAD WHEN IT MISSED A STOP SIGN AND COLLIDED WITH A MILK TANKER HEADED SOUTHBOUND ON EAST BETHANY ROAD. THE CAR SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE IN THE COLLISION, WHILE THE TRACTOR-TRAILER WOUND UP ABOUT 150 YARDS AWAY IN A NEARBY CORNFIELD.
