THE LIVINGSTON COUNTY WATER AND SEWER AUTHORITY IS QUESTIONING WHETHER THE IMMINENT CLOSURE OF LIVINGSTON CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN GROVELAND WILL NEGATIVELY IMPACT ITS FINANCIAL HEALTH IN LIGHT OF A RECENTLY COMPLETED, MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR PROJECT TO BRING WATER FROM HEMLOCK LAKE TO THE LIVINGSTON AND GROVELAND CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES.

“ASSUMING LIVINGSTON CORRECTIONAL FACILITY CLOSES BY SEPTEMBER, WE DO ANTICIPATE WE’LL SEE A REDUCED WATER DEMAND,” SAID MICHELLE BAINES, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE WATER AND SEWER AUTHORITY. SHE ADDED, “RIGHT NOW, WE JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT THE EXACT IMPACTS ARE.”

THE WATER PURCHASE AGREEMENT, WHICH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH 2024, WAS PART OF A BROADER CONTRACT THAT DICTATED THE TERMS OF AN $8.4 MILLION PROJECT TO BRING WATER FROM HEMLOCK LAKE TO THE TWO STATE PRISONS IN GROVELAND.
