The Livingston County Sheriffs office is holding a naming ceremony today for the newest member of the force. The mounted patrol horse will be named Sackett in honor of the late deputy William Sackett, who was seriously hurt in the line of duty in 1986. The horse will be ridden by Deputy Rebbecca Kane, who has been fully trained and certified. The naming will take place at 3 at the conclusion of the New York State mourned patrol school, being hosted by Livingston County this year at the Hemlock Fairgrounds.

For the 7th year on a row, people in Livingston county will come together to fight a dangerous disease. The annual Strollin’ for the Colon 5k walk and run is set for Saturday, May 19th at the Geneseo Middle School. Organizersincluding the Livingston County Cancer Services Program say colon cancer is preventable and more people need to know how to find out if they are at risk. Governor Cuomo has appointed a new special prosecutor to look into allegations of abuse against former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The governor change is controversial because the Govenor used an executive order to take away that special prosecutors job first given to Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. because Scheneiderman had been investigating how Vance had handled sex abuse allegations against Movie Mogul Harvey Weinstein. Vance says there’s no confictbut Now, Nassau County DA Madeline Singas will head up the investigation. Republicans say the whole situation is another example of Democratic dysfunction.

Law enforcement is warning about a new scam in upstate New York. Authorities say thieves have been using stolen ID’s then dressing up like the victims to try to cash fraudulent checks. Investigators say anyone who takes checks should be very careful to make sure the ID shown really belongs to the person using it.. Police think the scammers are part of a national crime ring called the Felony Lane Gang.
