Winter will just not quit. Forecasters say we could pick up some snow—maybe an inch or two total —between now and Friday. Temperatures will also stay well below normal. Forecasters say there is a change coming, but it may not be u til next week.
A man from Dansville who is accused of sexually assaulting a child now has a new lawyer as he tries to withdraw a guilty plea. Lance Riley says he was coerced into that plea in Wyoming County Court.. Riley made the guilty plea, even though he has denied the allegations—going as far as putting up a facebook page proclaiming his innocence. He is due back in court May 10. If the judge rules against the motion to withdraw the admission Riley will go to jail for 10 years.
Police have arrested a man who was wanted for forcibly touching a customer inside a Livingston County Wal-Mart. 66 year old Charles Belcher of Ontario County is accused of touching the victim inside the store in Geneseo earlier this month. Officials say a tip from someone who recognized Belcher from a surveillance picture led to the arrest. The suspect was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
The Livingston County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is out with its annual Visitors Guide. The 60 page guide highlights attractions and events in the county is laid out like a journal—with weekly suggestions for things to do when visiting, while leaving room for readers to add their own. 90,000 guides have been printed for distribution at visitors centers and other locations across the state—and its also available online at the tourism website FingerLakesWest.com
Former “Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon is gaining a bit of momentum in the race for governor of New York. Governor Cuomo has a nearly 30 point lead over Nixon among Democrats but new Siena College poll shows Nixon up eight points from last month. Cuomo numbers have dropped since January after his former top aide was convicted of bribery.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is trying to keep major cryptocurrency exchanges honest. Schneiderman has sent letters to 13 major internet money trading platforms in a fact finding mission. He’s asking for disclosure on their operations, use of bots and conflicts of interest. This is part of the Virtual Markets Integrity Initiative to try to make sure these companies are transparent, accountable and safe for investors.
