Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies say a man identified as a level 1 sex offender has been arrested on drug possession charges. 30 year old Victor V. Smith of Olean was charged with possession of heroin and driving with a a license that had been suspended six times, after he was pulled over on 390. The Sheriff’s Office says smith also uses the name Victor R. Smith and is listed on the state’s sex offender registry. Investigators are still looking at whether Smith’s arrest violates any of the terms of his past sentence.
Some people from Livingston county are making road trips in May to help people still recovering from natural disasters. Four teams from Livingston CARES will travel to Houston, Tampa, Puerto Rico, and Biloxi, Mississippi between May 14th and 17th to assist in rebuilding efforts in those communities. Members have done this before.This is Livingston CARES 40th trip to Mississippi which is still feeling the effect of Hurricane Katrina more than 12 years later. The volunteers will work on projects like repairing flood damaged homes and other community service initiatives. The non-profit group is a partnership between the Livingston County Board of Supervisors , the Livingston County Area Chamber of Commerce, the Town and Village of Geneseo, and SUNY Geneseo.

New York is expanding research into industrial hemp. Governor Cuomo HAS announced that the state’s given out more than 60 research permits to farms and businesses across the state. This nearly doubles the acreage in New York that can legally grow hemp. Cuomo says giving farmers across the state another cash crop to grow will help the economy and drive growth.
Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro’s campaign for governor is officially underway. Molinaro kicked his campaign off in Tivoli, where he became country’s youngest mayor in 1995. The Yonkers-born Republican says he wants a change in state government. Syracuse State Senator John DeFrancisco and lawyer Joe Holland are also seeking the Republican nomination. The primary is set for September ahead of the November 6th election.
It looks like NASCAR legend Tony Stewart has reached a settlement with the family of an amateur driver he hit and killed during a race Stewart was cleared of criminal charges but faced a civil suit for the 2014 Canandaigua Motorsports Park crash that killed Kevin Ward. Court documents show that papers have been filed to settle the matter. Ward’s family and Stewart are set to meet next week to discuss the details. The trial was scheduled to start next month.
