A man from Wayland is charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Sheriff Thomas Dougherty says 30 year old Mackenize Smith was pulled over in Lima and was found to have the drugs and syringes. He was a booked into the Livingston County jail on $100.00 cash bail.
State police say they have made a second arrest after shutting down a suspected meth lab in Dansville. They say 35 year old Hollie Taft was picked up after a three month long investigation that also led to the arrest of her boyfriend, identified as Thomas Jacobs. Police say they found chemicals at the scene used to make meth as well as lab equipment and other evidence. Both Taft and Jacobs were taken to jail and are being held without bond.
Some small kids in Kids are getting a leg up on reading,thanks to a well known country music star. The Mt Morris PTSA has passed a milestone of 3,000 books given away, with the help of the Dolly Parton Foundation, so pre-schoolers can get a head start with books. Mt. Morris elementary school principal Rachael green says early reading is essential and that every 5 year old on the district has an opportunity to get a free book a month until. they start Kindergarten. More than 100 children have signed upand if you’d like to find out more, you can contact the school district office.
Even though the flu rates in the region have been dropping lately, the CDC warns that a second wave could be coming. According to health officials the number of people infected with the B-strain of the virus, compared to the A-strain, is rising. This strain affects children worse. The CDC says it’s possible for unlucky people who had the flu earlier this flu season to catch a different strain later in the season.
State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle is expected to run for Congress. Reports say Morelle, a Democrat, is gearing up to run for the open seat left vacant by the death of long time congresswoman Louise Slaughter earlier this month. Morelle has said he wanted to wait to make his announcement out or respect for Slaughter, who served in congress for more than 30 years.
This is the week before Easter and there are lots of Easter themed events coming up. Among them, an Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the VFW on Sunday at 1:00 pm sharp at Williams Park, Clara Barton St ,across from Dansville football field. Kids under 12 will be welcome to look for for 100 dozen boiled and colored eggs, and there will be candy and prizes.
