Flu rates continue to rise. The newest numbers from the state department of health show confirmed flu cases are up nine-percent from the week before but related hospitalizations are down 13-percent. Our area’s flu season is slightly better than it was the week before. But we still have the second-highest flu rate of any part of the state. Doctors are still urging New Yorkers to get the shot and help stop the spread.

A 17-year-old girl who was last seen in Dansville is missing. State police say, Kathleen Miller, who also uses the name Valerie Angel Amato, is from Wayland and has been gone from home since Monday morning but was spotted in Dansville on Wednesday. She was wearing a blue Buffalo Bills sweatshirt, leggings, black sneakers, and carrying a white duffel bag. She is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds. Anyone with information about her is being asked to call 911 or state police Troop E

Police have charged a man from LeRoy with racing through the town of Caledonia at almost 100 MPH while drunk. Sheriff Thomas Dougherty says 41-year-old James Reichel was clocked at 99 on Rt 5 and that a roadside investigation led to drunk driving charges. The sheriff says those charges are a felony because of two prior drunk driving convictionsso Reichel is being held without bail at Livingston County jail

A man who stayed at a Mount Morris motel is accused of overstaying his welcome. Police say 61-year-old Kevin Lorka of Buffalo checked out of the motel on Tuesday and turned in his key, but then allegedly came back and tried to get into the same room and another one as well. Deputies say Lorka also went into the utility room, grabbed a fire extinguisher and did damage elsewhere on the property. Lorka is facing felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges. His new room is a cell at the Livingston County jail where he was taken on $15,000 bond.

A man from Mumford is accused of stealing a handgun from a home in Springwater. Livingston County sheriff’s deputies say Kevin Rigdon is charged with taking that loaded weapon from an acquaintance. Rigdon was arrested in Leicester a short time after the owner reported the gun was missing, He was taken to Livingston County jail on $20,000 bond. The weapon was recovered.

The governors of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island are forming a coalition to battle gun violence A week after the Florida school shooting, the governors said they can’t wait for the federal government to act. The governors say the coalition will involve a deepening of intelligence sharing between the states and a better coordination for intercepting illegal guns.
