Football parents in Geneseo are upset after the varsity season was canceled. Last month, seven players were suspended for allegedly taking prescription painkillers before a game, leading the school board to forfeit the rest of the season. Parents came out to the school board meeting last night to ask why the other 14 players were being punished. The superintendent said he was worried about losing students, not games, and wants to change the message.
A guilty plea from a woman who was arrested last month and charged with being part of a ring that broke into several vehicles around the area. 23 year old Chelsea O’Hare has admitted she was part of that group of three people who were accused of those crimes last month. She could get four years—but depending on other factors she could receive a much lighter sentence when she goes before the judge on December 19th.. The three people are charged with those break ins in Livonia, as well as other places in Monroe and Ontario counties. Additional charges are possible in connection with incidents in Livonia, Lima and Dansville. The two other defendants have not entered pleas.
Canandaigua police have identified a man found dead after an apartment fire. Police are investigating the death of 21-year-old Nicholas Bice as a homicide. His body was found Saturday morning after a fire at his unit at Camelot Square Apartment Complex. The fire has been ruled arson and So far, no arrests have been made. A go fund me page has been set up to help Bice’s family.
A film by a man from Livonia is shedding some light on a visit by Amerial Earhart to New York State almost 90 year ago. Harold Trott’s film of the famous aviator is thought to be the only moving image of her in upstate—and it sparked a hunt for clues about where and when he shot it. Now, sleuths have identified the footage. It came from a visit Earhart made to Canastota, east to Syracuse, to visit a newly opened airport. It was part of a barnstorming tour by Earhart after she became the first woman to fly alone across the Atlantic in 1928. 10 years later, Earhart vanished while flying over the Pacific Ocean in what is one of the biggest aviation mysteries ever.
Governor Cuomo says the federal government is assaulting New York State. The govenor is blasting lawmakers in Washington for proposing cuts to federal aid that he said would hurt the Empire State more than any other. He said the cuts would strip healthcare from children in the state and jack up taxes for working-class New Yorkers. Cuomo pledged to work with New York’s congressional delegation to fight back.
More doctors, nurses and the heath care workers from New York State are headed to Puerto Rico. Around 100 more workers from the state will head to the island as it people recover from Hurricane Maria. The governor says it’s personal, because so many New Yorkers have ties to Puerto Rico. Also helping out—UPS–which is shipping 100,000 bottles of water donated by New Yorkers The death toll on Puerto Rico has now been doubled to 34—and is expected to rise further.
