Big Bats Boost Dansville ‘Stars in District # 3 Finale

    Dansville 18 Geneseo 10

The Dansville 11-12 year old all-stars had battled in the previous 3 games of the District # 3 Little League baseball tournament, but had come up short in each. It looked like the same old story on Thursday night (July 7) on Knox Street when Geneseo came to town. The visitors came into town & took a 4-0 lead in the first & led the game 6-2 after two innings of play. Supporting that old theory that “hitting is infectious”, the Dansville bats came to life…& did they ! Coach Mark Little’s club was determined to get a win in this final all-star clash…& they did ! Dansville would score 7 big runs in the 3rd reversing the momentum of the entire game & would go on to an exciting 18-10 victory in a high scoring affair at the valley venue.

Geneseo came out & batted around in the very first inning & tacked on 4 runs to appearently “take command” of things. Nate Lafaye & Mike Suydam each had hits & scored runs in the 2nd to cut into the lead, but Geneseo equalled that in their half of the inning making it a 6-2 game. The “wheels came off” for the visiting team when Dansville sent 10 hitters to the plate in the 3rd & scored 7 times. Quinn Howe, Jace Cassata, Shane Crandall, Nate Lafaye, Mike Suydam, Bryce Applin, & Taylor Wolfanger would all cross the plate in the “belated 4th of July explosion!” Dansville’s 9-6 wasn’t really safe though, but Jace Cassata’s lead off home run in the 4th helped secure the red & black’s momentum down the stretch as the host team would score 3 times in each of the last 3 innings in mounting the eventual 18-10 final. Geneseo’s last gasp effort netted them 4 runs in the 5th, but that would be as close as the blue & white could get as Dansville would close out the tournament with the victory.

    Offensively for the victors Quinn Howe went 3-5 & scored 3 runs…Mackenzie Johnson-Boser 2-5 with a run scored…Jace Cassata had a 3-4 night including a home run & scored 3 runs…Shane Crandall was also 3-4 scoring 3 times…Nate Lafaye 2-2 & scored a pair of runs…Mike Suydam 4-4 & scored 3 runs…Bryce Applin had a hit & scored a run….Taylor Wolfanger 2-2 & scored once…Jonah Gray was 1-2….& Devin Douglas went 2-4 & scored a run in the win.
