Wayland Lions 5 5-Star Bank 1
On Wednesday (June 15) night the Wayland Lions “roared” to the Major League Championship in the Wayland Little League with a hard-fought 5-1 win over 5-Star Bank at Victory park. Lions coach Tim Willis noted the game was a pitching duel until the 4th when the cats tore things open with 4 big runs to take the lead. Mason Hillier singled to lead things off & then Mayson Willis broke the scoreless tie when he went “yard” making it a 2-0 affair. Lions didn’t stop there Evan Gotshall walked & then Nate Smalt doubled him home. Smalt utilized his speed in stealing 3rd & then scored on Thomas Mead’s single making it 4-0. Lions finished the scoring in the top of the 5th when Mayson Willis doubled in the alley in left-center, stole 3rd & scored on Nate Smalt’s infield grounder.
Wayland Lions, in claiming the title, will host the combined Major League Championship game on Tuesday (June 21) night at 6pm against the Dansville champs.
