Union Hose 18 Dansville Lions 4
In little league baseball play on Saturday (May 21) Union Hose broke open a close game as their offense steadily built as the game wore on & went home with a convincing 18-4 win over Dansville Lions on Knox Street. UH starting pitcher Seth Malone overcame a shaky start & settled down to notch the win as Lions would roar in front scoring 3 times in the first & then regained the lead with a run in the 2nd inning. Malone slammed the door after that while Shane Crandall came on to finish the job by getting the final out in the game. Malone worked 3 2/3’s innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while fanning & & walking 5. Crandall pitched 1/3 striking out one & walked one.
Dansville Lions took the lead in the top of the first as Quinn Howe & Jonah Gray had hits to go along with a walk to D.J. Lamonte. Nate LaFaye had the big hit in the inning with a triple which put the cats in front 3-0. Union Hose took advantage of an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame as a hit batsman, an error & a walk put the tying runners on board. J.J. Chrissy drilled a double that would knot things up. Coach Mark Little’s club was opportunistic in the top of the 2nd to take the lead when Quinn Howe tripled & an error would give Lions a short-lived 4-3 edge. Union Hose’s bats would then come alive as they would score 4 to take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd, & the proceeded to score 5 in the 3rd & tacked on 6 more to finish the job in the 4th while shutting down Lions attack.
Offensively for coach Jim Sullivan’s squad….Mike Suydam was 2-3 with a triple & scored 4 runs…Shane Crandall 2-3 with a homer & a double while scoring 3 times…Seth Malone helped his cause with a pair of stolen bases & scored 4 runs…Jace Cassata 2-4 with a double, 3 steals & scored a run…Peyton Mays scored a pair of runs…J.J.Chrissy 3-4 with a double…Eli Swyers scored a run & had 4 stolen bases…Karter Everman scored a run, while Devin Douglas crossed the plate twice.
For Dansville Lions…Quinn Howe & Jonah Gray went to the hill for a couple innings apiece. At the plate…Howe was 2-2, scoring a pair of runs & stealing 2 bases…D.J. Lamonte scored a run & stole a base…Jonah Gray was 1-3….Nate Lafaye 1-2 with a triple…Billy Delaney had a hit & stole one base…& Lucas Bevacqua had one stolen base.
