Protectives Start Season With a “Split”

With the opening of the Dansville Little League baseball season, Protectives found themselves in action twice in the first 4 days of the 2016 campaign. Coach Kevin Mialky’s club would find mixed results in those 2 ballgames….dropping a hard-fought battle on opening day with Jackson Hose….& then turning around & bringing out the big bats to beat COSAL from Wayland.

Pros Rally Comes Up Short vs. Jackson Hose…..

Jackson Hose 10 Protectives 8

In a battle of “the Hosers” on Opening Day (Apr. 30) each team saw some success hitting the ball & neither team “gave up the ship” in a game that went down to the final inning when Jackson Hose broke open a 6-5 game by scoring 4 times in their final at bat. Coach Kevin Mialky’s team Gave J.H. something to think about as they turned around & plated 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning, coming up just short in a tight 10-8 finish.
For Pros, they would get some strong pitching from Reid Martin who worked 1 1/3 innings & struck out 4. Brady Race threw 1 2/3’s innings fanning 2, & Logan Zepkowski also threw one inning. On the offensive side of things Kyrstin Wolfanger had a double & scored a run…Ty Schirmer & Reid Martin each scored twice…Thomas Mosko added a hit….Ivan Wolf-Mialky, Max Roberts, & Trevor Versluis each scored a run, while Logan Zepkowski walked twice in the opener.

Eight Run- 2nd Lifts Pros Over COSAL

Protectives 18 COSAL (Wayland) 8

Protectives of Dansville scored early & often in a convicing 18-8 win over COSAL from Wayland. at the end of 3 innings Protectives bats were producing big numbers as the Hosers led the game 13-3, due in large part to an 8-run 2nd inning & a 5 run 3rd. The Sons would scored in every inning except the first, but could not overcome the large deficit. Pros put runs on the board in every inning except the 5th.
For Pros…Reid Martin threw 3 innings & fanned 7 to get the win. Ivan Wolf-Mialky & Brady Race would each throw an inning with a strikeout in the victory as well.
