Keshequa Boys Bag Weekend Sweep



The Keshequa boys varsity baseball team wound up with “bookend” wins last weekend when they toppled Pavilion on Friday (May 6) & then bagged Pavilion on Monday (May 9) afternoon to improve to 10-5 heading into the remainder of the final week of the regular season.

In Friday’s (May 6) Livingston County Division III match-up in Nunda, the Keshequa Indians got on the board early & late by scoring 4 in the first & then a half-dozen in the 5th en route to a 13-3 final in Nunda. Coach Ron Macomber’s gang strung together a number of hits as Collyn Whie, Colton Davis & Austin Galton all had run-scoring singles. After Pavilion sliced away half of the lead, the Indians got them right back in the home end of the 4th. with Bryce Bennett & Brock Allen each knocking in runs. The Gophers plated one in the 5th & the Keshequa broke loose with a half-dozen in their at bat. Dustyn Zangerle opened the inning with a triple & then scored on Connor Mann’s sacrifice fly. The Indians went on the warpath with 5 straight hits with 2 outs to finish the scoring.
At the dish for Keshqeua (9-5)….Colton Davis was 3-5 & scored a trio of runs…Austin Galton 3-4 with 3 runs & drove in 2…..Brock Allen, Nick Wood, & Colly White all went 2-4 in the triumph. Nick Wood notched the pitching victory working 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs while striking out 8, giving up 6 hits & walked 2. Connor Mann tossed the final 2 innings of scoreless, 1-hit relief striking out 2, walking 1 & yielding only 1 hit.

Keshequa 11 Canisteo-Greenwood 9

On Monday (May 9) the Indians beat their blood brothers, the Redskins as Keshequa came from an 8-0 deficit to turn the tables into an 11-9 win in Nunda in high school diamond play. Orange & black skipper Ron Macomber Jr noted that Canisteo Greenwood grabbed an 8 run lead after 2 1/2 innings of play. The Indians bats caught fire as they ripped Redskins pitching & scored 8 times to tie the game in the home half of the 3rd ! Keshequa saw Connor Mann, Bryce Bennett, & Collyn White all drive in runs with hits in the rally while Austin Galton’s sacrifice fly plated another. The Indians took the lead for good with a 3-run spurt in the 5th as Connor Mann’s squeeze bunt pushed one run home. Colton Davis’ double down the left field chalk-stripe drove in Keshequa’s other 2 runs that would insure the 11-9 victory. Colton Davis & Connor Mann worked the early part of the game & were lit up by the Redskins. Coach Ron Macomber noted that the big story of the game was junior varsity call-up Travis Cotton who would pick up the win in relief. The youngster hand-cuffed Canisteo- Greenwood over the final 4 innings allowing just 1 run,& 2 hits, while striking out 4 in what would prove to be his first varsity win.

Offensively for the Indians Connor Mann was 2-3 driving in 3 runs…Bryce Bennett was 2-3 & knocked in 2…Nick Wood was 2-3 & Dustyn Zangerle scored 3 times as the Indians improved to 10-5 with York, Bath, & Cal-Mum on Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday (May 13) to finish up the regular season.
