Gunlockes’ Score Late….Down Union Ho

On the diamond on Knox Street, Gunlockes would rally late & hold off Union Hose in Little League baseball action in Dansville on Thursday (May 5) night by a score of 5-3. The Dansville Hosers would get on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Mike Suydam led off with a double, went to 3rd on a infield error, & then crossed the plate on a Devin Douglas’ single. He would then steal 2nd & 3rd, then score on a wild pitch giving Union Hose a 2-run lead. Gunlocke’s wasted no time in tying things up as the Wayland entry would score 2 of their own in the top of the 2nd. Collin Mehlenbacher led things off with a single…an error would send him to second. Hunter Derrenbacher & Sam Gemmel would walk to load the bases up with nobody out. Mehlenbacher would steal home, & then an error brought Derrenbacher home with the tying run. Union Hose would pull ahead with a single run in the home half of the 4th. With 2 away Seth Malone walked, & would later be brought home on Jace Cassta’s hit putting the Dansvlle squad in front 3-2. Not to be outdone, Gunlockes would put on a 2-out rally to take the lead 4-3 in their half of the 5th. Dave Semmel singled & then Mike Gammel walked. A pair of fielding miscues would allow both the tying & go ahead runs to score. In the top of the 6th Gunlocke’s tacked on an insurance run when Sam Gemmel walked, Christian Delaney was hit by a pitch, & then a pair of walks would force the run home as Dave Semmel picked up an rbi as the game would end in a 5-3 score in favor of the furniture-makers.

Mike Suydam pitched well for Union Hose in a starting role as he worked 4 2/3’s innings giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, struck out 9 & walked 3 and did not figure in the decision. Seth Malone took the loss going 1/3 giving up a pair of unearned runs on 1 hit & walked 2. Shane Crandall pitched 2/3’s of an inning yielding an earned run while striking out 1 & walking 2. Jace Cassata finished up with 1/3 inning striking out 1 & walking 2. Offensively for the Hosers Mike Suydam was 1-2 with a double & scored a run….Devin Douglas 1-3 with an rbi, scored a run & stole a base….Seth Malone scored once & had a stolen base… & Jace Cassata was 1-3 & drove in a run.

On Gunlocke’s side….Hunter Derrenbacher started & pitched 3 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 2 hits…he struck out 6 & walked one. Quin Burpee notched the win going the final 3 innings giving up 1 earend run on 1 hit, he struck out 7 & walked 5. At the plate for the Wayland team, Dave Semmel was 1-3, scored a run & drove one in…Mike Gammel 1-3, scored a run & stole a base…Michael Pillsbury 1/2…Collin Mehlenbacher 1/2, 2 stolen bases & scored a run…Hunter Derrenbacher scored once & stole a base, & Sam Gemmel scored a run.
