Dansville 12 York 11
In a “see saw” battle in girls softball on Thursday (May 12) at “the Corral” at Babcock Park, Dansville managed to thwart a late comeback effort by the Golden Knights to hold on for a tough 12-11 victory over York. The game stirred flashbacks of when another purple & gold team visited and the Mustangs squandered a late lead only to see Pavilion win the contest in extra innings 18-13. The Lady Mustangs said “not this time!” That philosophy didn’t stop the Knights from taking an early lead, or nor did it deter their comeback effort either.
The pendulum of momentum went back & forth as Dansville plated a pair of runs in the first to take a 2-0 lead, York came back to tie it in the 2nd & the scored 3 more in the 3rd to lead it 5-2. Dansville got 2 back in each of the next 2 innings to take the lead 6-5. It looked like coach Nick Crawford’s crew had wrapped things up when they batted around & scored 5 runs in the 5th to go up 11-5. Not so fast said the Knights as they bounced right back & pushed 4 runs across making it 11-9. Dansville managed to push one across in their last at-bat in the 6th. Lucky thing, because York would score twice in the 7th as the Mustangs hung on in a “nail biter’ 11-10 !
Natasha King worked the first 6 innings on the slab for Dansville to get the win, while Jamie Longo appeared in a relief role to get the save in the final inning. Offensifely Dansville saw Abby Kuhn go 3-3 & scored a trio of tallies…Zoie Howe 3-4 with 2 runs scored…Emma Kelly 2-2 & scored once….Katie Applin 2-4….. & Hannah Rex was 2-4 & scored once. Mercedes McGonigle worked in the circle for York as she went 6 innings yielding 12 runs on 13 hits For the Knights Cassidy Crok as 3-4….Mercedes McGonigle 3-5 & scored twice….Sarah McFarland 2-4 & scored 2 runs, and Jenna Flynn was 2-3 scoring a trio of runs for the purple & gold.
