In their initial meeting of the season the Wayland-Cohocton bats loomed large in a 17-hit attack on Wednesday (Apr. 27) afternoon as the Golden Eagles scored a 13-3 triumph at the “Dog House” in high school softball. Way-Coh didn’t waste any time getting on the board as they scored 4 times in the top of the first. Mikaela Nielsen led things off with a triple. Jessie Hammers followed with a hit & a stolen base. Ashlee Schumacher’s infield grounder plated a run, while an error & a hit batsman sets run-scoring hits from Alex Button & Hannah Recktenwald. Livonia fought back by getting one in the home half of the 3rd when Morgan Hyde singled, stole second, She would later score on a wild pitch. The Golden Eagles would “flap their wings” again in the 4th with 4 more runs. Mia Forsythe led off with single & then Mikaela Nielsen drew a walk, Jessie Hammers’ hit loaded the bases. Then Ashlee Schumacher & Hannah James lined run-scoring singles. A pair of infield grounders off the bats of Maddie Gregorius & Shailynn Celentano cleared the bases making it 8-1. An infield grounder & a wild pitch gave Livonia 2 more in the 4th, but Eagles got them back in the top half of the next frame. Mia Forsythe again got things going with a single. Jessie Hammers followed with a hit & stole a base putting a pair of runners in scoring position. Ashlee Schuamcher cashed in with a 2-run single. An error preceded an Alex Button single in the 6th. That set the stage for Hannah Recktenwald’s 2 run single, she would later score on Mikaela Nielsen’s infield bouncer making the final 13-3.

Wayland-Cohocton ( 10-2, 4-0) saw Ashlee Schumacher pick up the win in the circle with 6 strong innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 & walking 2. Alex Button threw an inning of scoreless relief with 1 strikeout. At the plate Mikaela Nielsen was 1-3 with a triple, an rbi & scored 2 runs….Jessie Hammers 4-5 with 3 runs, 3 stolen bases & knocked in 2….Ashlee Schumacher 2-5 with a double & 3 rbis…Hannah James 2-4 with an rbi…Kayla Curtin scored 2 runs….Maddie Gregorius had a hit & scored a run…Shailynn Celentano had a double & scored 2 runs…Shianne Chapman scored once…Alex Button 2-4 & Mia Forsythe were each 2-4 with a run scored. Livonia (5-4) was led offensively by Maggie Hoh who was 2-3…Molly Stewart added a double, while Morgan Hyde & Audrey Minton also added hits for the Lady Bulldogs. Wayland-Cohocton hosts Keshequa on Friday (Apr. 29) while Livonia plays host to Dansville that same afternoon at 4:30pm.
