Playing with “consistency” is always a key in any sport. On Monday (Apr. 25) the Wayland-Cohocton girls proved that philosophy is certainly true after the Golden Eagles scored in every inning except the 5th as the would defeat Perry-Mt.Morris by a final count of 12-3 in high school softball action at “the Nest.” Coach Dave Stewart’s club had 9 runs on the board by the time the Blue Jackets would touch the dish in the 6th inning.

Way-Coh (9-2, 3;0 ) grabbed the lead for good by scoring 3 times in the first. Jesse Hammers go things started when she singled, stole second & later scored on a passed ball. Hannah James, Maddie Gregorius & Shailynn Celentano each singled with Celentano being credited with an r.b.i. as another run crossed the plate on a wild pitch.. The Eagles scored 2 more in the 2nd when Mikaela NIelsen singled, stole second & scored on a passed ball. Maddie Gregorius singled & went to 3rd on Shailynn Celentano’s single, then scored on a passed ball. In the 4th Way-Coh plated 3 more runs as Mikaela Nielsen opened with a triple. Jessie Hammers, Ashlee Schumacher, & Shailynn Celentano each came through with run-scoring hits as the maroon & gold led 9-0 at the end of 4 innings of play. After Perry-Mt. Morris broke through with a single run in the 6th, Wayland-COhocton finished the job in the 6th with 3 more runs. There were a couple walks & an error that opened the door. Hannah Recktenwald & Kayla Curtin drove in runs on bases-loaded walks, & then Lexi Bowers forced another run home with a free ticked as Way-Coh saw the visitors plate a pair of runs in the 6th making the final 12-3.

For Wayland-Cohocton ( 9-2, 3-0) Alex Button started in the circle & worked 3 innings giving up 2 hits, no runs, while striking out 2 & walking 1. On the offensive side…Mikalea Nielsen 2-3 with a pair of runs, & a triple…Lexi Bowers was 2-2 with an rbi…Jessie Hammers 2-4 with 3 runs scored, a trio of stolen bases…Ashlee Schumacher 2-5 with a double & a couple rbis….Hannah James 2-4 & scored a run…Shailynn Celentano 3.3 with 3 rbis….Maddie Gregorius 2-3 & scored 3 times….Shianne Chapmen scored 2 runs….Alex Button scored a run, while Hannah Reckttenwald & Kayla Curti each drove in runs. Rachel Evans was 3-4 with an rbi, & Christina Olverd was 2-4 for Perry-Mt. Morris. Wayland-Cohocton visits Livonia on Wednesday (Apr. 27) before returning home for a game with Keshequa on Friday (Apr. 5) afternoon at 4:30pm.
