Coach Steve Wager’s Wayland-Cohocton baseball club was in search of their 2nd win of the season at home on Tuesday (Aprl 19) against the visiting York Golden Knights. Way-Coh gradually built an early lead & then iced the game away with a 6 run 6th inning to the tune of 11-2 at “the Nest.” In the first Wayland-Cohocton struck first as Jason Page singles, stole second & later came around on a passed ball. In the 2nd Connor Englert singled & stole a base, then would score on York fielding miscue. In the 3rd Eythan Briggs hit scored one run, while Jack Gibson’s double gave the Golden Eagles a 5-1 lead. York pecked away another single run when Jacob Trasher tripled & scored on Cody Dubiel’s single. In the 6th, Wayland-Cohocton wrapped things up as Jack Gibson & Eythan Briggs each drove in single runs, while Mike Feinman’s hit scored 2 in the 11-2 final.
Wayland-Cohocton (2-5) saw Hunter Bressler get the win as he pitched 6 strong innings allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, while striking out 8 & walking 4. Eythan Briggs worked an inning giving up a run & walked one. Offensively John Freberg was 1-4…Andrue Holbrook 1-5…Jason Page 3-5 with 3 runs scored & 3 stolen bases…Eythan Briggs 2-4 with 2 rbis & scored a run…Hunter Bressler helped his own cause with a 2-4 day & scored twice…Mike Feinman was 1-4 with a run scored & drove in a couple…Jack Gibson was 3-4 driving in 2 runs & scoring one…Connor Englert 1-2 with a run scored….& Curren Finn was 1-2 & drove in a couple of runs while scoring another. Way-Coh visits Keshequa on Wednesday & Bath on Thursday afternoons respectively.
