Hornell 9 Dansville 5
One of Dansville coach Tom Hober’s favorite philosophies to the game is to “get on the board early & make the other team play catch-up.” That strategy worked in reverse on Wednesday (Apr. 13) afternoon where Hornell would score a bunch of runs early in the game while the Mustangs tried to play “catch-up”. At Maple City Park things fell the Red Raiders way as coach Joe Mauro’s club defeated Dansville 9-5 at Maple City Park in Livingston County Division One baseball action.
In this route 36 rival match-up it would be Hornell who swung the bats to start & the Red Radiers grabbed an early lead by scoring 3 times in the first inning, twice in the 3rd & blew things open with 4 more in the 4th to take a 9-1 lead. Dansville got going in a “too little, too late” scenario as the red & black plated 4 runs in their last two at-bats, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Matt Disanna threw 6 strong innings for the win for Hornell, while Jake Dunn pitched the 7th in relief. Derek Wampole started for Dansville & lasted 4 innings while yielding 8 earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out 2 & walked 3. Southpaw Hunter Stone came out of the pen & worked 2 scoreless innings allowing just one hit & a walk. Offensively for Hornell (2-1) Andrew Doran was 2-4 with a couple of rbis…Jake Plank went 2-3 & scored twice, while Joe Gibson was the hitting hero with a 4-4 day, a double & drove in 4 runs. Dansville (2-2) saw Anthony Sackett get 2 hits & an rbi…Anthony Kanaval had a hit & an rbi…Ryan Conklin added a double & an rbi…Alex West & Derek Wampole each had a hit & an rbi in the setback for Dansville. Mustangs coach Tom Hober added, “we had a couple of chances in the those last 2 innings. We were just a couple of hits away from tying it up, seeing that we had runners on base in those situations.” Dansville hosts Bath on Thursday (Apr. 14) at Babcock Park.
