Pavilion Outlasts Lady Mustangs

Pavilion 18 Dansville 13 ( 8 innings )

It was a beautiful, but chilly afternoon for a ballgame & the Dansville and Pavilion girls made it last as the pair of varsity softball teams took it to extra innings where Pavilion would score 7 times in the 8th the finally put a lid on an 18-13 victory Wednesday (Apr. 27) afternoon at Babcock Park. Offense was the “order of the day” as there were only 3 scoreless half-innings in the entire contest. The Golden Gophers would own the lead in the game most of the afternoon, the Mustangs took a short-lived advantage in the bottom of the 5th inning, but the purple & gold would sneak into the lead in the 6th. Dansville would tie it in the 7th only to see Pavilion “bat around” in the 8th to secure the win, in much the same fashion the Mustangs did against Geneseo earlier in the week.

Pavilion got off the launching pad early in the game as they plated 4 runs in the first. Following Allison Moore’s rbi single, Hailee Milligan would hit 3-run homer down the left field line making it a 4-0 lead. In home half Dansville sliced the deficit in half when Sarah Cotton singled, Cheyenne Markowski tripled & then scored on a wild pitch. A Mustang error in the 2nd set up Nikki Paddock’s run scoring single as Pavilion added to the lead. The Mustangs got it right back in the home half of the frame on an infield grounder by Abby Kuhn which scored Adrianna Little who had walked & stolen second. Two more errors led to 3 more unearned runs for the Gophers in the 3rd. Dansville scored 3 times in the bottom half on an infield error, a fielding miscue on a ball hit by Hannah Rex, & an infield grounder by Abby Kuhn making it an 8-6 game. Zoie Howe reached base on a bunt single & later scored on a wild pitch making it 8-7. Pavilion got an insurance run in the 5th when Mikayla Tillotson doubled & then scored on an error. Dansville “doubled” Pavilion to death in the 5th when they took the lead for the first time in the game scoring 3 runs. After Maddie Farrell singled & was “sacrificed”to second, Abby Kuhn clubbed a double plating the initial run. Adrianna Little did the same, pushing the tying run home. Zoie Howe’s double put Dansville in the lead 10-9.

That edge would also slip away as Pavilion plated 2 more runs in the 6th regaining the lead at 11-10 when Mikayla Tillotson’s double & Mackenzie Good’s single made it 11-10 Gophers. In the bottom of the 7th Dansville would tie things up after the first 2 hitters struck out. Paige Harrison was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch moved her to second, a fielder’s choice where everybody was safe put runners at the corners. A wild pitch would bring the tying run home making it 11-11. Things exploded in the top of the 8th when Pavilion sent 12 hitters to the plate scoring 7 times as a trio of Dansville errors added fuel to the fire. Angela Graham’s 2 run triple, Emily Bean’s 2 run single, & rbi hits by Nikki Paddock & Hailee Milligan being the big hits making it 18-11. Sarah Cotton & Hannah Rex had hits in the last-ditch effort as the Mustangs scored only twice as the Gophers went home happy with an 18-13 win!

Angela Graham notched the win for Pavilion (4-6) working 8 innings yielding 6 earned runs on 11 hits while fanning 10 & walking 5.
