Avoca 9 Wayland-Cohocton 2

In a Tuesday (Apr. 12) non-league rival match-up, the visiting Avoca Tigers took advantage of “free baserunners” as walks & hit batsmen led to a big lead for the Steuben County League squad as they whipped Wayland-Cohocton at “the Nest” by a convincing 9-2 final in high school baseball play. A pair of walks in the 2nd came home to roost for the Tigers when a passed ball scored one & Derick Bulkley singled home the other. In the 3rd another walk was sent across the plate on a Seth Moldanado single making it a 3-run lead. Doubles by Derick Bulkley & Matt Chadwick led to another run in the 5th for Avoca. A quartet of walks in the 6th all scored in a 5-run rally as Nate Obrachta clubbed a bases loaded double driving in 3 runs. Wayland-Cohocton (0-4) scored their 2 runs in the home half of the 6th when Hunter Bressler doulbed & was singled home by Jack Gibson who would later score on a passed ball. Avoca starter Seth Moldanado went the distance with a complete game victory. He worked 7 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned on 8 hits while striking out 6 without a walk. He also went 2-4 in his own behalf. Also for Avoca, Nate Obrachta was 2-4 with a double & 3 rbis….Derick Bulkley was 2-3 with a couple runs scored & an rbi.

For Wayland-Cohocton Hunter Bressler opened on the mound with 5 innings as he gave up 7 hits, 2 earned runs, while striking out 6 & walking 3. Andrue Holbrook pitched a third of an inning in relief. Pat O’Neal also tossed 2/3’s. Mike Feinman worked the final scoreless inning giving up a walk & struck out one. Feinman also had the distinction of having 2 unassisted put-outs by a pitcher in the inning. One was a slow roller to the right side on which he tagged the crossing runner. The other was a pick-off in which Way-Coh got a baserunner in a rundown as Feinman ran right at the runner & eventually tagged him out. Offensively for the Golden Eagles Jason Page was 2-4…Pat O’Neal had a double….Hunter Bressler 2-3 with a run scored….Mike Feinman 2-3 with 2 stolen bases…& Jack Gibson was 1-3 with a run scored & an rbi. Wayland-Cohocton hosts Wellsville on Wednesday (Apr. 13), & Geneseo ( Apr. 15) on Friday, both games are scheduled 4:30pm starts.
