Naples 3 Dansville 2

It was so close, but so far for the Dansville girls softball team on Monday (Apr. 18) when they dropped into Naples in a non-league affair. The contest was a pure pitchers duel as Hannah DelGatto had the grapefruit for the green & white, while Dansville countered with Natasha King. The home team put up a single run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a slim 1-0 lead. That lead would last into the 7th as both hurlers tossed “goose eggs” on the board throughout the contest! Dansville rallied with a pair of runs to take the lead in the top of the 7th when Natasha King & Bri Henchen each crossed the plate giving the Mustangs a “momentary” advantage. Naples was “green with envy” at the visitors scoring 2 in the top half of the inning…so they went to work & did the same to win the game in the bottom half in a wild & wooly finish! Hannah DelGatto aided her own cause by driving in the game winner with a hit in the bottom half of the 7th as “the Big Green” would emerge victorious by a final score of 3-2 in a thriller !

Hannah DelGatto picked up the win in the circle working 7 strong innings while giving up 5 hits, while striking out 5 & walking just one. Del Gatto also had some great defensive support, especially in center field as Maeya Yeatman made the final 3 put-outs to help keep it close. Dansville pitcher Natasha King deserved a better fate as she went 6 2/3’s scattering 11 hits, while fanning 5. Offensively for the Big Green Hannah DelGatto was 3-4 knocking in the game-winning run….Carol Sweetman was 2-3 …Emma Lincoln 1-3 & scored a run….while Brianna Faro was 1-3 & scored the game-winning run with 2 away in the decisive 7th. Dansville’s offense saw Natasha King & Bri Henchen each come up with a hit & score a run….while Hannah Rex & Sarah Cotton each added hits for the red & black. Dansville visits York on Tuesday (Apr. 19th.) at 4:30pm.
