Keshequa 7 York 6
On the heels of a heart-stopper in the bottom of the 7th to stun Wayland-Cohocton the day before, the Keshequa baseball team still had some of that good “karma” working & put it to good use at home on Thursday (Apr. 21) against York. On this afternoon the Indians would be on an early rampage & take a 7-0 lead, only to see the Knights joust back & tie it in the 6th to set the stage for Brock Allen’s hit that would put the Indians in front for a 7-6 victory at the “Wig Wam on Walnut”.
The orange & black got on the board in the home half of the 2nd on consecutive doubles by Brock Allen & Bryce Bennett. Keshequa doubled their pleasure in the 3rd making it 3-0 as Connor Mann both drove in a run & later scored on a fielding miscue by York. It seemed like the home team took command when they plated 4 runs in the 4th as Austin Galton, Connor Mann & Dustyn Zangerle each produced run-scoring hits making it 7-0. The Golden Knights came charging right back though. The purple & gold put up 5 runs in the 5th & then tied things up with 2 more in the top of the 6th!
Sensing that the momentum was starting to swing, Keshequa took matters into their own hands & managed to push the go-ahead run across the plate in the bottom of the 6th. It didn’t take long as quickly Austin Galton would belt a triple & then Brock Allen would follow with an rbi-single as the Indians would grab the lead 7-6 & manage to preserve in in the York 7th for the win.
On the hill for coach Ron Macomber’s crew (4-4) Brock Allen did not figure in the decision as he worked 4 1/3 innings allowing only 2 earned runs on 5 hits & struck out 7. Austin Galton grabbed the win as he pitched the final 2 2/3’s giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits & fanned 6. The Indians visit the “Red Raider Rotunda” to take on Cal-Mum on Wednesday (Apr. 27) afternoon at 4:30pm.
