Hot Shooting Way-Coh Gun Down Bath

Wayland-Cohocton 68 Bath-Haverling 42

On Friday (Feb. 5) night at “the Nest” the Wayland-Cohocton girls were not ready to pack their bags in regards to their season. The Golden Eagles came out & played very well on both ends of the floor. They shot the ball extremely well, & played great defense on a team who’s offense can “light it up with the best of them. On this night however, it would be the Golden Eagles who would “fill it up” as the maroon & gold had a great “shooting” night at home. Head coach Al Best observed, ” I think we made up for every single shot we missed all year with the way we shot tonight. We played pretty good defense too, as our 11 blocked shots would attest to.”

Way-Coh would pull ahead early in the game as they would outscore the visiting Rams 17-9 in the opening quarter of play. Things didn’t get any better for the blue & white as Wayland-Cohocton stayed hot as they would add to their lead in spieling off 20 more points in that 8 minute span expanding their advantage to 37-18 by halftime. The Eagles were not taking that margin for granted, as Coach Al Best & company recalled having a double-digit lead on Livonia earlier in the season & winding up on the short side at the end. The Way-Coh first year skipper did NOT want to see a repeat performance.

The Golden Eagles didn’t shoot quite as well in the 2nd half, but played good enough defense to win each of the last 2 quarters as Wayland-Cohocton claimed a convicing 68-42 victory completing a sweep of the Rams for the regular season.
Wayland Cohocton(9-8) was led by Alex Button who poured in 30 points, including four 3-pointers….Reilly Landino scored 14, Kadeynn McInnis added 13, Maggie McAllister & Leaha Langerman each added 4…Madison Gregorius had 2, & Ashlee Schumacher scored one. The Golden Eagles close their season out with a trip to Livonia on Tuesday night (Feb. 9).
Bath (10-9) was paced Jadyn Abrams’ 14 points & 10 boards….Olivia Fitzwater had 8 …Madelyn Czajkowski netted 7…Morgan Hess 6…& Mackenna Taggart 3. The Rams final game of the regular season will be in Dansville on Tuesday night.
