Dansville 33 Canisteo-Greenwood 26
Dansville Lady Mustangs first year head coach Kristen Moose’s team snapped a 5- game losing streak on Wednesday night (Jan. 13) with a win over visiting Canisteo-Greenwood 33-26. The rookie skipper has already seen her team “let one slip away” after having a double-digit lead. Moose did “not” want a repeat performance in that regard. Dansville used tough defense & great rebounding in garnishing the win as they would break open a close contest in the middle 2 periods, & then held on as the Redskins attempted to battle back.
The two route 36 based ballclubs traded buckets throughout the first quarter as each team enjoyed a 3- point lead until a Maisy Booth bucket tied it with about a minute & a half left in the period. Then with time winding down Elaina Brownell’s basket would put Canisteo-Greenwood in front 12-10. The Mustangs quickly reversed the momentum as they would shut-out the Redskins in the 2nd quarter as sophomore Bailey Harnish came off the bench to score 5 of Dansville’s 7-points in the quarter putting the horses in front 17-12 at the half following a 7-0 run. Dansville’s offensive “spurt” would continue into the 3rd as the Lady Mustangs would score 11 more points before Canisteo would register their first basket of the 2nd half. The Mustangs had built a 28-12 advantage when Erin Congdon hit a 3-pointer with 2:43 left in the period for the Redskins first bucket since the end of the first quarter. Coach Kristen Moose’s club had gone on an 18-0 run to build some momentum for the stretch run as the Redskins now sensed the “urgency” because time was rapidly becoming a factor in the game. Canisteo-Greenwood notched a couple quick buckets to close the 3rd, & opened the 4th in the same fashion as quickly a 16- lead was pared down to 9! With two & a half minutes left the Redskins managed to hold Dansville scoreless, but could only knock down one more field goal as the Mustangs were managing to control the boards. The rally would wind up being short, as the red & black would prevail by a 33-26 count.
Dansville ( 4-9) had a fairly balanced offensive attack as Abby Kuhn scored 10 points, Hope Didas & Sabrina Didas added 8 each, Baily Harnish finished with 5 & Sarah Cotton had 2 in the victory. The Lady Mustangs had a great night controlling the glass throughout the contest. Dansville heads off to Livonia on Friday night. Canisteo-Greenwood ( 5-8) was paced by Maisy Booth’s 10 points, Erin Congdon & Elaina Brownell each netted 6, as Autumn Edwards added 4. Canisteo-Greenwood visits Bolivar-Richburg on Friday night (Jan. 15).
