Cal-Mum 36 Wayland-Cohocton 33
In a rare Martin Luther King Day match-up, both teams would share the lead in girls hoop action at the Red Raider Rotunda where Cal-Mum & Wayland-Cohocton clashed on the hardwood. Way-Coh had the lead early, but Caledonia-Mumford had it late….when it counted. Somehow I don’t think they’ll share the victory with the Golden Eagles though. Coach Al Best’s contingent would hold the lead in the first half of play as the maroon & gold slipped in front 9-6 at the end of the first & managed to lead by 2 at the break in another battle of “defense oriented” teams. The Red Raiders offense came alive when they scored double figures twice in the 2nd half with the 3rd period being the turning point as the maroon & gray grabbed their first lead in a 12-7 spurt putting the Red Raiders up by 3, which would become the final margin. Late in the game Wayland-Cohocton made a run & took the lead briefly. Isabella Slocum then hit a field goal that gave Cal-Mum a lead they would not relinquish down the stretch as they would post a 36-33 win in the cross-over contest.
Cal Mum (12-2) was paced by Gillian Flint’s 17 points & 6 boards, while Adrianna Molisani netted 7, Isabella Slocum 6, Samantha Bickford, Hannah Wade & Jessica Garland added 2 each. Wayland-Cohocton (6-7) was led by Kadeynn McInnis’ 10 points, Reilly Landino scored 9, Ashlee Schumacher with 7, Marissa Schirmer & Alex Button had 3 each, while Maggie McAllister scored 1 as the Golden Eagles lost their 2nd straight after winning 4 in a row. Way-Coh hosts rival Dansville on Friday night (Jan. 22) at “the Nest” with the girls playing the 2nd game of the varsity double-header.
