Letchworth 50 Wayland-Cohocton 43
Wayland-Cohocton had hoped to capture its initial win in the Jeff Englert era on Wednesday night (Dec. 30) when they tangled with Letchworth in the consolation game of the Attica Christmas Tournament. The Golden Eagles had dropped the opener to Perry the night before. Coach Englert’s group was “battling” again as the maroon & gold held a 20-18 lead at the half in hopes of preserving the edge & getting “the monkey off their shoulders”. The Indians would go on the warpath in the 3rd quarter which would shift the momentum drastically. Letchworth outscored Way-Coh 18-4 in the period to take the lead of a dozen into the 4th. Once again Englert’s Eagles would never give up as they would outscore the red & white-clad Indians, but the rally would fall short in a 50-43 setback.
Wayland-Cohocton was led by Connor Englert’s 16 points, Mike Feinman added 10 as Tyler Bosh had 8 & Jack Gibson 4 for the Golden Eagles who went 9-16 from the charity stripe in the game. Wayland-Cohocton visits York on Tuesday (Jan. 5) night in a Livingston County cross-over contest. Letchworth saw Brad Bliss pump in 22 points, while Seth Gill netted 9 & Trevor Owens 8 for the Indians who visit Alexander on Friday night (Jan. 8th) in their next outing. Coach Jeff Hopkins’ crew hit 16 of 21 from the line in the victory.
