New Year, New Spirit For Way-Coh “Cheer!”

Its a new year & more reasons to “cheer” at Wayland-Cohocton ! Yes, the cheerleading season is underway as head coach Julie Oas & assistant Amanda Ruscitto are enthusiastic about this year’s squad which will include a few seasoned veterans, some junior varsity graduates & a couple of new faces will be featured for the maroon & gold on the floor and sidelines this season. Coach Julie noted, ” we have a half dozen returning from last year’s squad, we have 6 up from J.V., a new girl from Honeoye & another new senior. They have been working really hard!”

The Golden Eagles will continue to “cheer” & prepare for a number of competitions coming up starting in January. Coach Oas stated Wayland-Cohocton’s first competition will be on Jan. 9th at Fairport. The maroon & gold will also set their sights on the Hornell competition, Greater Rochester Cheer & Dance, & Empire Cheer. The dates have also been set for the Livingston County League title chase on Feb. 20th, & then Sectionals will be held on Feb. 27. Good luck ladies !

This year’s varsity team consists of seniors Tatum Kramer, Elese Moon, & Isabella Benton. The juniors are Blair Mastin, McKenzie Perkins, Ashley Garrison, Jaylynne Hitt, Madi Belanger, & Sydney Rider.
Sophomores are Kortni Parsons, Marissa O’Connor, Karlee Chizuk, Lilly Stenzel, & Olivia Knudsen.
The Junior Varsity team has a new coach with Sara Belcher, along with assistants Sam Chizuk & Heather Drum. The junior varisty squad features sophomore Cassie Beitzel & freshmen Alex Duclos, Charlotte Kennedy Sam Smalt, Sophie Holmes, Heather Tibbit, Tallen Collen, Genny Wilkinson, Leanne Perkowski & Alexa Ruscitto.
