Dansville 45 Wayland-Cohocton 34
The 2015 installment of the annual Dansville Rotary Tip-Off Tournament got underway on Thursday (Dec. 10) at the Mustangs Corral. The game saw Wayland-Cohocton hold a brief lead very early in the game, but about 4 minutes into the action Dansville took the lead & never looked back in a 45-34 victory in opening round play. In the opening minutes of the game Connor Englert & Anthony Sarago hit field goals for the Golden Eagles, while Derek Wampole’s free throw saw Way-Coh hold a very brief 4-1 lead. In the final 4 1/2 minutes of the quarter, the Mustangs raced into the lead on a 15-4 run that saw Thomas Graves & Ryan Conklin hit “threes” while Austin Milliman got inside for a couple of baskets as the red & black led 16-8 after the first period. The complexion of the game wouldn’t change much in the 2nd as Way-Coh saw Jacob Paufler come off the bench to hit a pair of field goals, as Connor Englert scored 5 points as the Eagles at one point would shave the lead to just 3 at 18-15. Once again Dansville would “put it together” in the closing moments of the half scoring 8 of the last 11 points in the half. The points were spread around as 6 different players would get on the board as the Mustangs took a 26-18 lead into the locker room at the half.
In the 3rd the maroon & gold would again cut the lead to just 4 with about 3 minutes left as Anthony Sarago scored 6 points in the quarter. Derek Wampole would counter for the Mustangs scoring all 8 of Dansville’s points in the period as the home team held a 34-27 lead heading into the last 8 minutes of the game. Coach Dave Moodie’s team would establish their largest leads of the game in the 4th quarter as Derek Wampole would score 5 more points as Connor Englert scored all 7 of Way-Coh’s markers down the stretch as Coach Dave Moodies Mustangs would prevail in a 45-34 final.
