Keshequa 55 Letchworth 51
It was a see-saw, roller-coaster affair, but the Keshequa boys basketball team notched its first win for 1st year chief Bill Mann as the orange & black won “the battle of the Indians” in Nunda Wednesday (Dec. 2) night by a 55-51 final. Mann noted, ” we had our ups & downs during the game, but we put on a nice run at the end to secure the victory as Gavin Duryea, Austin Schmidt, & Brad Bennett each hit some clutch free-throws down the stretch.”
The home team grabbed a 7-point lead after the first period of play as Kehsequa led 17-10. The Nunda-Dalton gang battled to add to their advantage in the 2nd as the orange & black held a 27-18 lead at the mid-way point. Letchworth came out of the locker room & started to get their shots to fall & kept pace with their hosts in the 2nd half. Down the stretch Letchworth had to resort to fouling Keshequa in hopes of trading baskets for fouls, but the orange & black shot a high percentage down the stretch for the 55-51 win.
Keshequa (1-1) was led by Austin Schmidt’s double-double with 25 points & 10 rebounds…Gavin Duryea scored 13 with 3 steals…Brad Bennett contributed 8 points & 4 boards….while Connor Mann had 2 points, 8 assists, & a pair of steals. Keshequa visits route 408 rival, Mt. Morris on Friday night.
