Keshequa 66 Warsaw 49
In the Christmastime battle of the “black & orange”, Keshequa gradually pulled away from rival Warsaw in Monday’s first day of the Tink McVean tournament to score a convincing 66-49 win over the visiting Tigers propelling the Indians into the finals against unbeaten Elba on Tuesday (Dec. 29) night.
Coach Bill Mann’s club pulled ahead in the afternoon affair at “the Indians’ Reservation” by a half dozen in the first 8 minutes of play. Mann commented, ” I’d say we played pretty well overall, but we certainly have some things to work on.” The Indians extended that lead by half-time to a double digit advantage of 34-20. Keshequa came out “on fire” in the start of the 3rd period & would double up Warsaw 20-10 in that quarter to take full control of things in cruising to the 66-49 final.
Keshequa (4-6) was led by Gavin Duryea who dumped in 25 points on the day. Cory Baker contributed a dozen while Brad Bennett scored 10…Austin Schmidt had 8…Bryce Bennett 5…Nick Wood 4…& Jake Blanchard 1. For Warsaw (0-9) Logan Motz led the way with 15 points for the Tigers…Alex Fanaro scored 12…Korey Hulme 7…Ethan Grawe 6..Nate Tangeman 4…Austin Chavis 3….& Zach Stone 2. Warsaw opens Tuesday’s (Dec. 29) final action with Dansville in the consolation game, followed by Keshequa & unbeaten Elba in the tournament’s title game.
