Geneseo Boys Ground Golden Eagles

Geneseo 50 Wayland-Cohocton 39

It was a slow starting game for both ballclubs on Monday night (Dec. 7) at “the Nest” as Wayland-Cohocton hosted Geneseo in boys cross-over hoop action. Once the “early season blues” were shed, things started rolling….particularly for Geneseo who would outscore Way-Coh 32-15 in the middle two periods that gave the Blue Devils the momentum to come away with a 50-39 win at Way-Coh.

Talk about “defenseive”!! The score after one period of play was Geneseo 4- Way-Coh 3 ! The Blue Devils were ready to bring in Mariano Rivera to close the door as it sounded more like a baseball game rather than basketball . Geneseo’s Kyle Rollins bagged a “3” & Marcus Griffin muscled in a a couple buckets on the blocks as the visitors extended the lead to 15-6 at the half. The blue & white had an 11-3 run in the 2nd quarter to start the “pulling away” process. Geneseo’s Trevor Frazier & Kyle Rollins connected on early 3’s to start the second half & the ball started rolling for coach Brian Paganin’s team. Zach Clar would hit another “3′, while Marcus Griffin notched an old-fashioned 3-point play that aided the visitors on a 21-12 run in the 3rd pushing the lead to 36-18 as the 4th quarter unfolded. In the final 8 minutes, Wayland-Cohocton’s offense was “jump started”” by Tyler Bosh who buried 4 3-pointers in the closing quarter….but it wasn’t enough. Despite outscoring the Blue Devils 21-14 in the final stanza, the hole was still too deep to dig out of for the homestanding Golden Eagles as Geneseo would win it 50-39. Wayland-Cohocton’s Tyler Bosh put on a “3-point shooting clinic” over the final few minutes as the senior guard started “dialing downtown” regularly. He hit Way-Coh’s first shot of the night, & then bagged 4 long-range bombs in the closing minutes as well.

Geneseo improved to (2-0) as they’ll host Keshequa on Wednesday ( Dec. 9) The Blue Devils were led by Marcus Griffin’s 12 points…Kyle Rollins added 8, Zach Clar netted 7…Jack Ryan 6….Devin Mix, Brendan Wheeler, & Jake Young each netted 4….Trevor Frazier scored 3….as Brian Linton finished with 2 points. The Blue Devils would finish 10-17 from the charity stripe.

For Wayland-Cohocton ( 0-2) , Tyler Bosh hit 5 three pointers for 15 points, Connor Englert added 7….Anthony Sarago scored 6…Mike Feinman & Jack Gibson each had 5 points…& Andrue Holbook scored 1 in the setback. Wayland-Cohocoton battles rival Dansville on Thursday (Dec. 10) at “the Corral” in the opening night of the Dansville Rotary Club Tip-off Tournament.
