Dansville Girls Grab L.C.A.A. Swim Title!

There was reason to celebrate at Avon Senior high school on Saturday (Oct. 17) as the Livingston County swimming title was on the line. The celebrating came from the Dansville Lady Mustangs swim squad who captured the L.C.A.A. title with a team score of 482, which is over 100 points better than 2nd place Wellsville. Coach Jim Welch Jr.’s team came away with Championship performances in 5 different events as Senior Swimmer of the Meet Vanessa Vegder shared in 4 of those champioinships, with Haley Bridge taking the other, as she also shared in 2 more.

The red & black got off the platform quickly & established some immediate momentum as Dansville took the opening event as Cheyenne Markowski, Vanessa Vegder, Haley Bridge & Madelyn Vegder took the 200 yard medley relay in a time of (1:59.95). The Mustangs 2nd title of the day came in the 3rd event as Vanessa Vegder took the 200 Individual Medley (2:20.42).Next, it was Haley Bridge’s turn to take an individual title in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:37.95). Then Dansville dominated the final 2 events of the meet with Vanessa Vegder taking the 100 Yard Breaststrike (1:10.70), & then the team of Haley Bridge, Christina Kaszuba, Ashlyn Schust& Vanessa Vegder won the 400 yard freestyle relay to put the finishing touches on the championship!
Other individual & team honors at the meet included Vanessa Vegder’s winning the “Senior Swimmer of the Meet”…Isabel Mariotta from Wellsville who was the Top Performer of the Meet….Coach of the year was Wellsville’s Steve Hand, & the Sportsmanship award from the Southwest Chapter of Officicials went to the Letchworth Indians. Congragulations ladies !
