Letchworth-Warsaw 32 Dansville 3
On an evening when Dansville fans should be celebrating the hard work & accomplishments of 8 senior football players, along with several band members…penalties & big plays by visiting Letchworth- Warsaw would overshadow the festitivies as the Indians (or Tigers…whichever mascot you choose) would take over the momentum of the game from the start in what would wind up being a lopsided 32-3 win for the red-black-& orange. Fans would recognize Alex West, Dan Jesmer, Forrest Edmond, Ryan Conway, Matt Warner, Kasey Cox, Justin Vogt, & Anthony Kanaval and their families prior to the game. At halftime members of the band were introduced prior to their routine. The celebration for the Mustangs stopped there!
Things started to slide almost immediately for Dansville as they received the opening kick-off, which was a squib kick. The Mustangs had it on their own 45 yard line. Two plays later the Mustangs left the ball on the ground where the Indians/Tigers would recover. On the very next play from scrimmage Mike Galton took off on a 45 yard touchdown run to put Letchworth-Warsaw on the board first. Kameran Olcott booted the extra point giving the visitors a very quick 7-0 lead. The Mustangs next drive was partially fueled by penalty flags, which actually came against both teams several times throughout the night. There were so many flags in fact that I thought one of 2 things…1.) that the officials were getting paid “by the flag”….or 2.) that one (if not all…) of the officials were going to need “Tommy John ” surgery after throwing the flag so much. Dansville would be stopped at the Letchworth-Warsaw 36 yard line on downs. The red & white took over the football & again, on the first play from scrimmage Tanner Butler burst up the middle & outran everybody to the goal line. Sixty-four yards later it was a 14-0 lead for the Indians-Tigers. The Mustangs next drive would be one of the most productive ones of the night as they utilized a pair of Letchworth-Warsaw personal fouls to keep the drive alive. Dansville moved the ball to the Indians one yard line where they had first & goal. The visitors defense they forced 3-striaght losses, one of those was on a bad-snap on a “shotgun” situation. The Mustangs had to settle for a Tommy Graves 25 yard field goal making it a 14-3 contest. The Indians would miss a 40 yard attempt just prior to the half.
In the 2nd half, it seemed like that old Yogi-ism “deja vu all over again”. Dansville kicked off in the 3rd quarter. The Indians brought the ball out to their own 44 yard line. Then the first play from the line of scrimmage saw Mike Galton take off again ! This time it was 56 yards to make it a 20-3 game. Late in the 3rd quarterback Jake Ziegler capped another drive with a 2 yard run making it a 26-3 game. Early in the 4th the Mustangs fueled another Letchworth-Warsaw drive by fumbling a punt deep in their own territory where the Tigers-Indias would recover. Almost like it was scripted…the very next play saw Owen Beck slip through the forward wall & found himself in the end zone for a 32-3 final. The victory put coach Chad DeRock’s club back into the sectional play-off picture.
