Wayland-Cohocton 2 Bath-Haverling 1
The Bath girls soccer team was in search of revenge from
their earlier season loss at home against Wayland-Cohocton. On this
Friday night (Sept. 13) it would be an uphill battle at best. The way
things would play out saw Wayland-Cohocton prevail again by a 2-1 final
as an “own goal” would wind up being the difference in the game. As the
contest unfolded at the Cohocton Sports Complex the Rams would grab the
lead in the game. In the 16th minute Bath got a ball in deep to the end
line & slipped a pass across the seam where Mackenzie Smith finished it
for the blue & white giving Haverling the advantage. Bath managed to
keep Way-Coh in check until the final minute of the first half when
Jessie Hammers slid a pass to Maddie Lewis who one-timed it into the net
knotting the score at 1-1 at the half. “Defense” again would reign
throughout the second half. As for the miscue that led to the game
deciding score, Wayland-Cohocton coach Terry Brown attempted to
recall….” to be honest with you I’m not exactly certain what happened.
I know the ball was back in the box somewhere, & I don’t believe that we
had anyone in the area who was really a threat to score at that moment.
Someone simply booted one & it wound up in their net. ” The miscue
occurred in the 64th minute of play & would eventually decide the game
in Wayland-Cohocton’s favor & kept their winning ways alive as the
Golden Eagles improved to 8-0 on the season.
Wayland-Cohocton out shot the Rams 17-6 in the game as goalie
Ashlee Schumacher had 5 saves. Jadyn Abrams was in net for Bath (3-4)
finishing with 11 saves.
An injured Golden Eagle team welcome a tough Cal-Mum squad to the sports
complex on Tuesday night (Sept. 22) at 5pm, while Bath hosts Geneseo
Tuesday at “the Rock” with start time at 6:30pm.
