Wayland-Cohocton Boys Come Up Short In Bath
Bath-Haverling – 3 Wayland-Cohocton – 2
One thing you can say about the 2015 edition of the Wayland-Cohocton boys soccer team is ” they come to play!” What a difference a year makes…as Coach Kate Potter’s club has “been in” every ballgame this season. That includes Mondays (Sept. 21) battle in Bath at “the Rock” where the Rams would eventually prevail by a slim 3-2 final over the pesky Golden Eagles.
The blue & white struck early & quickly as Andres Warren scored from Josh Carpenter in the 3rd minute of play to put the Rams in front. At the midway point of the first half, Coach Matt Hill’s club doubled their lead when Luke Snavely netted one, also from Josh Carpenter giving Bath a 2-0 lead heading up to halftime. Coach Potter commented, ” in the 2nd half we played with a lot of intensity & possessed the ball and battled right back.” In the first minute Michael Schumacher dribbled to the end line & then send a pass across the crease where Alex Lincoln was taken out in the box. The resulting penalty kick by Alex Lincoln sliced Bath’s lead in half. The Rams were hungry too, as Josh Carpenter, who had assisted on Bath’s first 2 goals, decided he’d like to try the scoring column as well. He did, as Tyler Brezezinski assisted on the play which would make it 3-1 in the Rams favor. Wayland-Cohocton would bag another goal in the 48th minute when Alex Lincoln found Kalum Holbrook sutting the count back to 3-2. Bath’s defense would make the edge stand up for the hard-fought win at the Steuben County Seat.
Bath (4-1-1) led in shots by a deciding margin 27-6 & in corners 6-1, yet Wayland-Cohocton would hang tough throughout the contest. Bath’s Steve Binkowski was in goal & had 5 stops, while Jeff Fox was credited with 16 saves for the Golden Eagles in the game. Bath visits Geneseo on Wednesday (Sept. 23) night at 6:30pm, while Wayland-Cohocton (3-4) heads off to Hamilton Field in Caledonia to tangle with the Red Riaders on Wednesday.
