Keshequa 2 Mt. Morris 1

The Keshequa boys soccer squad remained unbeaten on Saturday
(Sept. 19) afternoon at the “Devils Den” where they held off a late
charge by Route 408 rivals Mt. Morris to claim a tight 2-1 victory.
“Defense” was the name of the game early in the contest as both teams’
intensity was at “a high!” Keshequa’s scores both came late in the first
half as both goals came within 7 minutes. In the 28th minute Journey
Boss found Dustyn Zangerle who drilled one giving the Indians the lead.
Then in the 35th minute Damon Rathbun scored unassisted to give coach
Ron Macomber Jr.’s club a 2-0 lead which they enjoyed at the half. Mt.
Morris tried to fire things up in the 2nd half as they sliced into that
lead when Joe Cappadonia assisted on Colin Brickwood goal just 3
minutes into the final period. “Defense” then became the focal point for
both teams as Keshequa would hang on to win that battle 2-1.
The Indians ( 7-0) would out-shoot Mt.Morris 12-8, although the
Blue Devils held the edge in corner kicks 5-3. Keshequa goalie Austin
Galton had 8 saves, while Mt. Morris (3-2) keeper Josh Lewis stopped 5
shots.

Mt.Morris’ next outing will be Monday (Sept. 21) when the visit
Avoca in 4:30pm start, Keshequa will be back in action Friday (Sept.
25) when they host York-Pavilion at Kiwanis Park starting at 6;30pm.
