Hornell 3 Dansville 1
As the 2015 boys high school soccer season takes shape, Hornell
is off to a flying start with a 5-0 mark, while the Dansville Mustangs
are sputtering at this point with a 2-4 record. The 2 teams met at the
“Mustangs Corral” on Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon following a boating
fundraiser in Rochester in which Dansville boys & girls players &
coaches raised 1600 for wounded veterans.
Coach Steve French’s Mustangs came back & battled for 80 minutes
with the visiting Red Raiders only to see the Maple City Gang prevail
with a 3-1 victory keeping their unbeaten season alive. Both teams would
swap goals in the first 40 minutes of play as Jacob Dunham scored on a
Trevor Aldrich assist to get the southern tier squad started.
Dansville’s goal was netted by Nick Vogler who found the back of the net
off an assist from Sam Arriagga. Coach Jim Tobin’s club would push
ahead with a pair of scores in the second half to take control of
things. Jake Plank would assist on a Sam Dagon goal that put the Red
Raiders ahead to stay. Hornell would tack on an insurance short later in
the half when Kane Countryman netted an unassisted goal completing the
Raiders 3-1 triumph.
Hornell outshot Dansville 13-10, while corners were 3 each, as Josh
Harrison came up with 5 saves in goal for Hornell, & Ryan Conklin was
credited with 4 stops
Dansville hosts Avon on Monday (Sept. 21) at 4:30pm, while Hornell is
at home against Wellsville Monday night at 7pm.
