Wayland-Cohocton 6 Dansville O

On a warm Wednesday (Sept. 16) night in the valley
Wayland-Cohocton brought their “A-Game” & bested host & rival Dansville
in girls soccer action at “the Corral” by a final score of 6-0.
Way-Coh, playing without the services of junior attacker Mia Forsythe
still possessed the ball well, & utilized their speed and quickness to
post up a trio of goals in each half to defeat Dansville who had their 2
game winning streak snapped.

It didn’t take coach Terry Brown’s team long to push out in front.
as at the 38:08 mark (just under 2 minutes in) 8th Grader Ayslinn
Holbrook connected on an unassisted goal from the right side as she
fired a shot that was too hot to handle & went through the goal keepers
fingertips & into the net. Dansville attempted to clamp down
defensively. They would hold the Golden Eagles in check until Jessie
Hammers touched the ball at the 31:11 mark . Maddie Lewis slipped a nice
pass in the crease to Hammers who brought it in & fired it into the
corner to double Way-Coh’s lead. With 4:18 left in the half, a ball
came off of a Dansville defender just outside of the left side of the
box. Ayslinn Holbrook put a shot up from about 18 yards away that found
a home over the keeper’s outstretched arms making it 3-0 at the half.
The maroon & gold nearly had a 4th goal when a ball was apparently put
in by Kendall Ellis, but a penalty had been called in the box before
Ellis directed the ball into the net. Way-Coh was awarded a penalty
kick, which they missed over the top of the crossbar leaving the count
at 3-0 at the intermission.
In the 2nd half defense was the name of the game for the first 10
minutes anyway. Jessie Hammers took a pass at the top of the box from
Kendall Ellis & rode it home at the 29:08 mark making it a 4-goal lead.
Just 4 minutes later Jessie fashioned the “hat trick” when Marissa
Schirmer was credited with an assist as she found Hammers open. Jessie
made a move in the box & rifled a shot into the corner making it 5-0
with 25:06 left to play. A little over 6 minutes later Way-Coh keeper
Ashlee Schumacher showed her punting ability & boomed one out that went
almost 3/4’s of the field. Kerrigan Miceli was there to take it off the
bounce and ran into the box with & the fired one past the keeper
completing the scoring at 6-0.

Wayland-Cohocoton improved to (7-0) on the season as they outshot
the Mustangs 29-8, although Dansville held the edge on corner kicks 2-1.
In net Briaunna Henchen had 14 saves for the Mustangs, while Ashlee
Schumacher picked up the shutout with 6 saves for the Golden Eagles.
Way-Coh coach Terry Brown noted, “we needed to play good sound defense &
play aggressively to counter-act their enthusiam from the home crowd.
Arin Belden, Dansville skipper commented, ” Wayland-Cohocton is a very
good & they have a lot of weapons. We have to come ready to play & match
their physical style of play. It seems like we just couldn’t get started
offensively.” Dansville travels to Letchworth on Tuesday ( Sept. 22) at
6:30pm, while Wayland-Cohocton hosts Bath on Friday (Sept. 18) night at
5pm.
