Dansville – 6 Avon – 2
Was there some great soccer philosopher who once said…”one goal, does not a game make”? How true a statement that is & is doesn’t matter when you score that goal either! The Avon Braves popped one in the net within the first minute & a half of Monday’s (Sept. 21) cross-over match-up with the Dansville Mustangs at “the Corral.” The game was far from over however. The Braves would even get a second goal about mid-way through the half, but Dansville’s Nick Vogler went on a scoring rampage tingling the twines 4 times on the day leading the Mustangs to a 6-2 triumph at home.
Jake Peterson’s goal at 1:26-in gave the green & white the quick lead & a little bit of early momentum for the visitors. Dansville responded though with Nick Vogler’s first score off a feed from Phil Blum which would tie things up. Vogler’s 2nd goal of the half put the Mustangs in front when Vito Blanco found him to give coach Steve French’s club the edge. Nick Vogler make it a hat trick in the first half when he converted a penalty kick making it a 2-goal lead. Phil Blum would find Vogler open once again before the half, & the senior striker would score 4 times in less than 40 minutes adding to the Mustangs’ advantage. Avon’s Cam Hughes netted a goal from Sam Bond which sent the teams to the locker rooms with Dansville holding a 4-2 lead.
In the final 40 minutes Steve French’s club would give themselves some additional breathing room by scoring 2 more times. Vito Blanco would score from Phil Blum, & Rhett Sullivan would add the final score in the red & black’s 6-2 win in Dansville’s 3rd win of the season. The horses held the upper hand in shots 23-11,while Avon led 3-2 in the corner kick department. Ryan Conklin registered 8 saves in net for the Mustangs, as Brandon Gingher finished with a dozen stops for Avon. The Braves host Hornell on Wednesday (Sept. 22nd)
