NYC Skyline relit

The New York City skyline had a different touch to it last night when the beacon and spire on top of the Freedom Tower was lit for the first time. The lighting of the beacon and spire, which together span 408 feet, was a test. The beacon is loaded with 288 50-watt LED modules which can make it visible for up to 50 miles, weather permitting. Meanwhile, a panel of architects is set to decide whether the spire will count towards the height of One World Trade Center. With the spire, the building stands at 1,776 feet, which would make it the tallest building in the country. Currently the Willis Tower in Chicago is considered the tallest at 1,451 feet.
