Prison Sentences In Heather Boyum Case

Sentences handed out yesterday for two drunk drivers in the death of Heather Boyum. She was the Fairport High School teacher who was knocked off of her bicycle by a drunk on a motorcyle, then runover by a drunk driver in a car.

23 year old Mark Scerbo, the motorcyclist got 7.5 to 15 years in prison. The other driver involved, 24 year old Meaghan Merkel got one year. But she served enough time while waiting on the trial to satisfy the sentence

Both Scerbo and Merkel apologized to Boyum’s family. Her husband made an emotional statement to the court on the sadness and difficulty of raising their two kids Boyum gone.
