Frewsburg (VI) 7 Keshequa (V) 1

Like all good things, unfortunately, they come to an end. So it was for the Keshequa girls softball team’s 22 game winning streak here in the spring of 2013. In the Far West Regionals the Class C Section V representitive headed to Olean High School to tangle with Frewsburg of Section VI on Tuesday (June 4). The Indians would wind up on the short side of a 7-1 score that would close their dream campaign prematurely.
Keshequa fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th…a position that the orange and black were seldom in during the course of the regular season. The Nunda-Dalton gang cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth when Alex Flint walked and later scored on a Grace Mehlenbacher hit. That would be all the offense the Section V squad would be able to muster on the day. Frewsburg exploded scoring 5 times in the bottom of the 6th as a trio of Keshequa errors plagued the Indians defense in the contest which would see the Section VI team move on to the final four in Glens Falls on Saturday (June 8).
The Indians close the season at 22-1 as Alex Flint pitched six innings giving up 8 runs, 5 earned on six hits while striking out six and walking three. At the plate for Keshequa Grace Mehlenbacher was 2-3 with an rbi. Haley Russell 2-2…Kate Forrester 2-3 with a double…and Kristen Jackson was 1-4 in the Indians season ending setback. Coach Martha Blair noted, ” we are very proud of this team of girls. They’ve had a great season and they’ve all worked so very hard throughout the year to improve their game. Its been a joy to having had a chance to coach such gifted athletes this year.”
