It didn’t take coach Martha Blair’s girls long to get going in their Sectional softball opener on Saturday (May 25) in Nunda. The top-seeded Lady Indians batted around in each of the first two innings, scoring 8 in each to cruise to an easy
18-O verdict over the visiting Eagles from Kendall in the Class C3 contest. The Indians used the long ball to get much of their offensive work done as Keshequa clubbed a trio of homers as Alex Flint, Haley Russell, and Tessa Gordinier all went “yard” in the game.
Keshequa continued its winning ways by improving to 19-0 & moving into the semi-final round on Tuesday (May 28) against Oakfield-Alabama. The Indians offense was alive and well in this game as the orange & black crushed Kendall pitchers for 18 runs and 13 hits on the day. The wealth was spread throughout the entire line-up. Kate Forrester led the way with a 3-3 day with a double, three rbis, and scored twice. Alex Flint helped her own cause in hammering her 9th homer of the year while going 2-3 with a double, two rbis and scored two runs. Tessa Gordinier 2-3 with a homer, a double, two rbis and scored three times. Adding one hit apiece were Kristen Jackson (double, 2 rbis, and a pair of runs), Haley Russell ( homer, 4 rbis, run),Grace Mehlenbacher (run, rbi), Kylie Blanchard (rbi, 2 runs),Selena Erwin (triple, run), and Ariel Wood ( 2 rbis, 2 runs). Also for the victors, Emily Grant knocked in a run, and Gabrielle Mehlenbacher scored a run. In the circle, Alex Flint picked up the win in the circle with a complete game 1-hit, shutout while striking out 11 without a walk.
