Sen. Schumer promotes incentive for Corning, Inc for U.S. production

U.S Senator Charles Schumer wants to provide an incentive for Corning Incorporated to build a diesel manufacturing plant in Corning rather than China.

Schumer says the plant would create hundreds of jobs. Corning Inc. officials have said Corning is one location under consideration but Schumer notes there are serious cost advantages to locating the plant in China.

As a result he’s proposing an expansion of a clean energy tax credit for making products like Corning diesel engine filters that reduce air pollution.

The incentive program provides a 30-percent tax credit to support investments in a wide variety of clean energy products.
