What’s being called the Educate NY Now Express tour is headed to Albany for an afternoon rally. Hundreds of students, parents and teachers from around New York State, including Hornell, will march on Albany looking for more funding for schools.
The event is organized by the Alliance for Quality Education. Its in response to deep cuts in state education aid combined with a new property tax cap limiting what districts can raise through tax increases. Organizers say the state isn’t living up to a 2007 agreement to adequately fund schools.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s last budget increased school aid by $805 million but districts say that doesn’t make up for what they lost in prior years.
