UPDATE: 68 year old groundskeeper plunges 100 feet off cliff while mowing

Emergency crews rescued a man from a 100-foot gorge after he plunged off the cliff while driving a lawn mower.

Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say the 68-year-old Doug Preston,  a long-time employee and groundskeeper at the Bristol Harbour Resort in Canandaigua was mowing near the 15th hole of the resorts golf course.

Other employees noticed the gentleman was missing this morning just before 10 a.m. and then went looking for him. Thats when they saw pieces of the mower equipment and saw Mr. Preston  t the bottom of the gorge. He may have been stuck in the gorge for up to four hours. The Ontario County ROPES Emergency Rescue Team also responded. A ROPES spokesman said Mr. Preston was unconscious when they got to him and he remained in that condition with severe head and upper body injuries.

The Mr. Preston is currently in critical condition, and flown by MERCY FLIGHT to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
